Oman - Camping & Backpacking

Since there are no camp sites, you can camp anywhere for free in Oman. The bad thing is that there is no shower or toilet near or any kind of sanitary services where you decide to camp. Here are some of our advices if you camp in Oman :

  • Never buy cans that will not be fully eaten right after opening. It is so hot that nothing unwrapped can be kept fresh for a couple of hours.
  • Buy dry food like nuts, dry fruits, cookies, you can let them unwrapped and they won't get spoiled even if it is 45 C degrees.
  • Buying a plastic cooler can be a good idea but you will need to refill it withice every 24 hours minimum. As soon as you leave the vehicle and the AC is not on, the temperature inside the car rises above 45C degrees.
  • Always carry what you believe to be too much water. Even though that water may reach 40C degrees when left in the car, this water will hydrate you
  • Expect to be awaked as soon as the sun rises, every morning at 6AM it was already too hot to stay in the tent.
  • Plan to pay for a night at a hotel from time to time so you can have a shower and enjoy a night under AC.
